One of my favorite things to do every year is the RPM Challenge. This year’s project didn’t go as planned, but, I still got *something* done.

“RPM” stands for Record Production Month, a personal challenge anyone can take to write and record an album or EP or just a single only in the month of February, and it’s crazy and wonderful and intense and inspiring and and and and and. I’ve attempted a full album every year since 2007, and I’ve more-often-than-not finished creating the requisite 10 tracks (tho, admittedly, with a lot of filler), so it’s been a vehicle for me to write over 150 songs at this point. Songs I never, ever would have written, without the self-imposed pressure-cooker of this fun little project that vexes and inspires me yearly.

This year, I didn’t get a full record done, or even a fake full record…but, I did record four tracks, recorded hastily on February 28, and poorly mixed. But done. I got to make another fun song with my kids, as we’ve done for four years now. And it’s always better to make stuff, than to not make stuff. And they come from the heart.

So here’s A Reconsider EP for 2026. Maybe someday, I’ll reach my goal of actually working on the recording all month, so I can get some friends in on the record and actually develop stuff. But despite my self-flagellation, I love doing RPM. I know what I make isn’t anything amazing. But it is special, to me.
